The SM Street happens to be the busiest street in Calicut. What's so great about this street? Let’s take a look!

The SM Street popularly known as 'Mittaitheruvu' is the city's ticket to fame. The history of its name dates back to the time when the trading foreigners equated the Kozhikodan halwa to sweetmeat. The street is almost 600 years old and was most likely occupied by the residences and shops of sweet manufacturers from Gujarat during the early times.

SM street is supposedly the busiest street in Calicut. The street was immortalised through SK Pottekatt's Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award Winning Book 'Oru Theruvinte Katha'. A statue was also erected facing SM Street as homage to the writer.

You could stay at any of the several hotels around the street and then step out for a leisurely walk and splurge on the textile or sweet shops that are lined up throughout the street. Of the several things that you could do at Calicut, a visit to the Mittaitheruvu should be at the top of your list and you sure will not be disappointed!
