Zuleikha Chaudhari & her performance 'Auditioning the Plaintiff. Rehearsing the Witness: The Bhawal Court Case'. This theatre and installation work that questions the logic of the archive through performance, but also positions performance and theatre as having an active role in creating and recreating collective, shared archives, or memories as part of law and lore. It questions assumptions of stable and consistent identity and the construction of a credible narrative—how we define who we are and who defines what evidence is. Rehearsing the Witness examines the artifice of the archive’s presentation, not as a way to demystify, but as a way to see that what we often understand as an ‘outcome’, what we call ‘truth’, is produced through performance and storytelling.
