Cochin Carnival

The Cochin Carnival will be held on the last week of the year. While Cochin was ruled by the Portuguese in the 16th century, New Year was a grand celebration. The festivities were carried over the years and the Cochin carnival was officially initiated in the year 1983. It is an occassion to celebrate the year and make merry. Unique games, lights and other activiies are held during the week. The highlight of the carnival is the porcession held on the first of the new year which is led by a decorated elephant and spectacular floats accompanied by different folk art forms.
