This heritage walk will take you through the history of Thripunithura, the seat of power of the ascetic Cochin royal family, known for its contribution towards multiculturalism, public infrastructure, the national movement and conservation of traditional art forms. The walk includes visits to the important sites in the town, such as the Statue Square, Clock Tower (Manimalika), Poornathrayeesa Temple, Kalikotta Palace, Elephant Stable and the Iron Bridge. This tour happens to coincide with the first day of the annual Vrischikotsavam Festival at the temple, a seven-day cultural extravaganza, with the main event being the procession with 15 caparisoned elephants accompanied by temple percussion, and the participants can stay back to witness the festivities for the rest of the day (or week!).
This guided tour is for free.
