Pick a place of your choice that are within a 100 kms from Kochi, to relax and unwind this weekend

Mondays are forever boring and that feeling of going back to work dooms upon all of us, and by the time we realise Monday is just hours away, it’s too late to do anything else. But, thankfully, this time, Monday is a holiday! I know, I can’t contain the excitement myself. Thank the lord for having May 1 fall on a Monday, I say! So, instead of spending the weekend cooped up at home- not that it’s a bad option- spend a day or two with your friends, family or that special someone with. To make it easier for you, here are a few places that are just a short drive away from Kochi.

Cherai

Located in Cherai village, the beach is a beautiful place to relax. The 15 km of long golden beach is very clean, shallow, and quite the popular spot for swimming and sunbathing. This is one of the few places where we can see the lagoon and ocean separated only by a few hundreds of metres.

Kumarakom

Kumarakom is a village on Vembanad Lake in the backwaters of Kerala, southern India. It’s laced with canals, where houseboats ply the waters. Head to the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, as it is home to many species including cuckoos and Siberian storks. Nearby, the Bay Island Driftwood Museum displays wooden sculptures. In the lake, Pathiramanal Island is a haven for rare migratory birds.

Athirapally Falls

Athirappilly Falls is the largest waterfall in Kerala and is nicknamed "The Niagara of India. It is situated at the border of Ayyampuzha Panchayat in Aluva Taluk of Ernakulam District and Athirappilly in Chalakudy Taluk in Thrissur district of Kerala, India on the Chalakudy River , which originates from the upper reaches of the Western Ghats.

Vagamon

Vagamon, a hill station located in the Kottayam-Idukki district, was discovered by the British who found the place ideal for tea plantations and they were followed by Christian missionaries who built their abode of service at Kurisumala in Vagamon.

Guruvayur

Head to Guruvayur for a devotional holiday with the family. Guruvayur is well known for the most famous Sri Krishna Temple in South India. This is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in Kerala, and an ideal getaway from Kochi.
