The Aanandham actors have been going places in their career, with the latest being Arun who played Varun bagging a role against Mohanlal in a Lal Jose film!

Aanandham was a feel good movie that made us all miss our college days and the people we spent it with. The actors from the film have been marking their presence in the industry as well! Recently, Wkochi came to know that Arun Kurian, who played the stoic and responsible Varun in Aanandham has bagged a role alongside Mohanlal in a Lal Jose movie!

Wkochi got in touch with the young actor for an exclusive interview on the film and much more!

About Himself

“I’m basically from Thiruvalla. I was in Kuwait for some time, then I came back to Kottayam. I did my Bachelors and Masters in Coimbatore and Mumbai. And now, I’m back to Thiruvalla, but I come by Ernakulam once a while.

I used to work as an Assistant Director before. I was working on ads in Mumbai. I worked with Vishnu Shyamaprasad, who’s the son of Shyamaprasad. Then I assisted Arun Gopalan, an Ad Film director in Mumbai.

I was doing my MBA in Media & Entertainment in Mumbai. Acting was something that drove me, it was what I wanted to do. But I didn’t have the circumstances and opportunity to pursue acting, or go to theatre classes or anything of that sort. So I went into Direction and started out there with a plan to get into acting later on. I used to send out my pictures and all, and that’s how I got Aanandham.“

His Second Film

“It’s my second film as an actor. I’m very excited, nervous as well. This is the Big League, I get to work with a lot of senior and much more experienced actors. More than the fact that it’s my second film, I’m more excited about the fact that I get to work with Mohanlal. He’s one of my favourite actors. Watching him act in action, comedy as well as character roles is what actually got me so crazy about films. When I was a Kid, he used to be something like a superhero for me, like a demigod.”

The Mohanlal Fan

When asked about his favourite Mohanlal film, he named it to be either Spadikam or Pavithram. “Ever since I was a kid, I was a huge Mohanlal fan. I’m a 90s kid, and back then within my family and cousins we had this set of Mammootty fans and Mohanlal fans. It was the same in school and college as well, and I’ve remained a huge Mohanlal fan throughout. At that time, every Malayalee had that, either you were a Mohanlal fan, or you were a Mammootty fan. I’m not sure how it is now.“ he adds laughing.

On The Lal Jose Movie

“After Aanandham it’s been a long break, I’d been sitting here pretty much jobless for the past 6-7 months. I did hear out a few scripts, but the characters didn’t fascinate or excite me that much, so I chose to wait it out. Not like I’m a huge actor or anything, but I want to do quality films, good, memorable characters.

I’m not revealing much about the story, since we haven’t even shooting yet. Lal ettan plays the College Vice Principal Michael Idiculla. It’s a college based story. I play a city boy, a town guy you could say, I can only say as much.”

The fact that Lal Jose is making a movie with Mohanlal is a big deal on its own. We expect a lot from the movie with the script by Benny P Nayarambalam who worked on big movies like Chanthupottu, Spanish Masala and Chota Mumbai. Other than Arun and Mohanlal, the movie also stars Anoop Menon, Sarathkumar, Salim Kumar, Priyanka Nair, Jude Antony and Anna Reshma Rajan who played Lichi in Angamaly Diaries. The film will be shot mostly around Trivandrum & Alappuzha, with the shoot scheduled to begin sometime around this week.
