Bhaghya Babu, the artist behind ‘Awkwerrrd’ webcomic, talks about her comics and her first offline exhibition of her art works

Every artist encounters a dead end while seeking inspiration, some time or the other. You get frustrated and indulge in self-talk. Bhaghya Babu has turned such a situation she found herself in, into her work. When she gets stuck with a lack of ideas, she comes up with a comic that portrays her situation.
Lesser known by her real name, Bhaghya is more popular through her comic strips across social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

I first got to know of her comics from my friend who told me that I was just like the character in the comic strip, trying to show the photos and videos of my nephew and irritating him. The name of the artist was what attracted me to her comics, “Awkwerrrd”.
When asked about how she came up with the name 'Awkwerrrd', Bhaghya said,
“The name wasn’t something I gave much thought into. It was something that was on top of my head when I created the comic strip. The name got stuck and I never thought of changing it.”
From commerce to design, the journey of Bhaghya has been full of twists. She is now a freelancer and her family is supportive of her decisions. Talking about the characters in her webcomics, she says that most of her characters have been inspired by her friends and family.
Bhaghya is preparing for her first ever offline exhibition of her comic strips and merchandise at ON FLEA.K -2 which will commence on September 9, 2017 at TocH Public School.
“This is going to be my first experience and I’ve been preparing for it. For the next season, I’ll be introducing my first ever comic book.This time I'll be showcasing some of my comic strips along with some paper covers and stickers of my comic characters," she said.
