Manhattan-based author Nikita Singh was recently at Kochi to launch her latest novel, Every Time It Rains, at DC Explore, Convent Junction. In conversation with Book reviewer and media lecturer, Shana Susan Ninan, Nikita opens up about her book; the protagonist and the genre in which the book was written on.

The Plot:

It is the story of two best friends, Maahi and Laila. They are characters from a previous book of hers. Here, she has given them more space. Laila is a badass, dark humor and cynical and all. During a rain, usually, our memories pour out. We become melancholic. With Laila, although she's a successful baker and entrepreneur, on top of things at all times, she missed the presence of someone in her life. And that's when JD comes into her life like a whirlwind. He's unlike her: fun-loving, playing pranks, impulsive and absolutely witty. Do the two find common ground? Does Laila find something attractive in him?

The Genre:

Like most of her novels, this one falls under the Romance genre and deals with relationships, friendships, life lessons and advice on love.

The Location:

For Nikita, having lived in Delhi made things easier for her as the story came naturally to her. Once you read the story, you’ll see how she’s managed to weave in all these tiny details into the story, like the workplace, transport, coffee shops, traffic, and hangout spots. It gives the story a touch of reality and will seem relatable to the reader.
