It’s always a matter of pride, to claim oneself as a Kochitte and the city’s old edifices have indeed souls which echo the tales of a glorious past. Undoubtedly, they remain as the mute remnants of the old grandeur of this city.

 

1. Vasco House

The 500-year-old house situated at Rose Street, Fort Kochi is believed to be the abode of Vasco Da Gama during his visits to Kochi, right until his death in 1524. The monument is one of the pioneering structures that paved the way for the construction of European buildings in Fort Kochi. 

 

2. Bastion Bungalow

The bungalow will indeed take you back in time. The Renaissance museum at Bastion Bungalow will fascinate you for sure with its wide photograph collection of various social reformers. When the Dutch captured Kochi in 1663, they started destroying the fort and reduced all the six forts out of seven bastions and the remaining one was converted to Bastion Bungalow. 

 

3.Pierce Leslie Bungalow

 The bungalow was constructed in the year 1862 with a fine architectural blend of Portuguese, Dutch and other local influences. It is believed that the bungalow housed the offices of the coffee merchants, Pierce Leslie  and company which is reflected in its name.

 

4. Old Harbour House

The building is believed to be shelter for sailors and later became the residence of the officials of the tea broking firm before being converted to a heritage hotel.

 

5. Kodar House
 

Samuel S. Koder, who belonged to an illustrious Jewish family of Cochin bought and renovated the house in the year 1905. Koder, ran the Cochin Electric Company, and was also the Honorary Consul to the Netherlands, and it was he who began the Cochin wing of the Free Masons.
