How many times a week do you pose the question, “Where should I eat from today?” or “Where can I get this dish?”
Kochi has grown so much as a city that a new restaurant is opening up at every turn. It is also a fact that eating out has become a global past time. For all those foodies in the city who love experimenting with different cuisines, it’s still not an easy deal to find out where a particular dish is available even with the help of a food app. The only other logical way is to approach someone who loves food just as much as you do. This thought process is what gave rise to the prominent food groups in Kochi.
As George Bernard Shaw said “There is no sincerer love than the love of food” and the love for food has sparked the start to many beautiful friendships through these groups. Ever-present on Facebook and Whatsapp, the members of these groups share their food experiences around the city and organize meet ups and create events all focused around their shared interest- Food.
Eat Kochi Eat
Eat Kochi Eat is the biggest food group in Kochi right now with more than 6500 members and getting bigger by the minute. Created by Karthik Murali in September 2015, this group has become such a big phenomenon that the group creator talked at the Mashable Social Media Day event at Crowne Plaza on June 30th. They have a monthly meet up organized at the first weekend of the month. They recently organized an iftar event at Hotspot and celebrated the group crossing 6000 members with a cake from Cake Hut.

They recently had a meet up at De’Pastry school where many of them learned baking and had a follow up meeting at Tonico Cafe. They were also a big part of the Kochi Raahgiri day in association with Kochi Metro Rail and Chai Nation.

Food Alerts Cochin
Food Alerts Cochin started off as a Facebook page started by Uma Namboodiri and Davis D Parakal. Even though the page with over 7700 likes and the Twitter handle is not that active, they have a Whatsapp group created in May 2014 that is extremely so. Due to the need of satiating hunger immediately and for instant response to queries, they moved to the Whatsapp group. The group contains around 30 people and has been kept at a small scale to keep spamming at bay. They keep the group updated about new eat outs, spread the word about deals and discounts in eateries and update about food related meets ups and events.
