Careful is a socially relevant movie by V K Prakash on Road Safety which also marks the return of Jomol to the Malayalam movie industry

V K Prakash is one among the many renowned directors in the Malayalam movie industry. He’s also worked on many films, music videos, and commercials in Malayalam, Telugu, Marathi, Kannada and Hindi. His latest movie titled ‘Careful’ which deals with the socially relevant issue of road safety is all set to hit the theaters on 26th May.

WKochi got in touch with him to know more about the movie and other details.

What can you tell me about the upcoming film?

Careful is basically an investigative thriller. It’s a combination of investigative journalism and a police investigation. The end of the movie will touch your heart. The movie will also reach to family emotions. It also contains a social message, that is how to be careful on the road. When you leave the theater, the movie will have touched your heart and left you much more conscious about road safety.

How did the movie come to be?

It started with the producers, Wide Angle Films. Suresh Balaji and George Pius, they are the ones who called me about the project, asking if I’m interested. I understood the theme the story. The movie is actually an adaptation of the Kannada film U-turn. It’s not a remake, it’s an adaptation. There’s a lot of changes from the original and this one is more realistic.

How was the experience shooting the movie?

The movie was shot at an actual location that is near Kathrikadavu junction. I left it to the actors to perform their roles. It was more like a candid shoot so there’s a lot of credibility in the shots. Anyone can relate to the film.

Can you tell me a bit about the main characters?

One thing that makes this film interesting is that Jomol is making a comeback through this film. Also, Sreejaya, who acted in films like Kanmadam is also making a comeback. Sandhya Raju plays a journalist. Vijay Babu, Ashokan, Parvathy Nambiar & Sreejith Ravi play police officers. Saiju Kumar & Jomol add the family element. Aju Varghese, Krishna Kumar, and many others play very important roles as well. It’s an ensembled cast and the roles are also ensembled. There’s no hero or heroine, everyone has an equal role in the movie.

How have the promotions been going?

Promotions have been doing good. They are trying their level best to reach to the audience. Mohanlal, Priyadarshan among many others support the cause of the film.

Jomol makes a comeback to movies with this movie. How was the experience working with her?

She’s awesome. Extremely energetic, very enthusiastic. We did an acting workshop before the shoot with the cast. It was fun working with all of them.

The movie addresses the issue of road safety. It’s a very relevant and current topic. What is your take on it?

Road travel is part of our day to day lives. Road safety is a part of that. I feel the film is extremely relatable to people exactly because of that.

How did your acting career come to be?

Since I studied at a Theater school, we do know a little bit of acting. My path has always been directing. I don’t dislike acting, but Directing is what I really like. I acted in Saghav and other films because my friends asked me to.

What are your upcoming films?

There’s more to come, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
