Starting her career in Mollywood, making her way to Kollywood, and now entering Tollywood, Nikhila Vimal has come a long way in her career

Nikhila Vimal might not be a name that is familiar to a lot of the Malayalam movie following audience, but she is no stranger to the industry. One can still recall her smart Trivandrum slang in the movie Love 24x7. Starting off her career in the industry in a role alongside Jayaram in the movie Bhagyadevatha (2009), followed by her debut as a heroine in Love 24x7, opposite Dileep, she slowly drifted to the Tamil movie industry post her positively received character in Vetrivel and Kidaari alongside Subramaniapuram fame M. Sasikumar.

Now, making her Telugu debut in Meda Meeda Abbayi, the remake of Oru Vadakkan Selfie. Directed by G Prajith, who directed the original as well, the film will feature Allari Naresh and Nikhila Vimal in lead roles played by Nivin Pauly and Manjima in the original. The first look poster for the movie was released yesterday as well.

“It’s my first Telugu movie, so I was actually pretty scared because I had no idea how things are there. I’d say I still don’t know much about since this movie was actually directed by a Malayalee.” she says about the movie, “I was holding back from doing a Telugu movie even though I used to get offers because I didn’t know the language. But in this case, both the director and the cameraman were Malayalees, so I thought it would be easier to communicate.”

Nikhila is also starring in a Tamil Rom Com action thriller directed by Vinod. The movie also stars  Sibi Sathyaraj (Sibiraj), the son of Veteran actor Sathyaraj, alongside her. This would be a first time that the actress will be seen in a bolder and more westernised avatar as compared to her usual appearance. “It wasn’t a conscious decision, but most of the roles I got were almost all this village oriented characters. Ranga is a different type of movie when compared to the rest, it’s an action thriller. Both the heroine and the hero plays an equal role in the movie.”

“My characters name is Abhinaya, she’s an animator and a bit introverted. The movie deals with this couple and their life, their marriage and what happens next. It’s also a first time I get to be a part of the action sequences. So that was fun”.

We didn’t forget to ask her that important question of when she’s making a comeback to the Malayalam movie industry. “As of now I was doing both the movies together, I had a tight schedule. So doing a Malayalam or any movie would have been difficult” she says, “but hopefully yes, I do hope to do a Malayalam film soon.”

Nikhila was a sweet soul to talk to, answering all our questions with ease and laughter. We ended the short interview by asking her about her next projects “Right now, I’ve not committed to any project. The schedule for Ranga & Meda Meeda Abbayi clashed a lot. I’ll only be committing to something after this comes to a close.”
