Everyone loves a good “life hack”. If you don’t know what it means, we’ll assume you don’t spend much time scrolling through your Facebook newsfeed.  A “lifehack” is any tip or trick that can make things easier for you- whether it is productivity, efficiency or just to help you save a few quick bucks. The following are some life hacks that are tailor made for those living and thriving (or at least trying to) in Kochi.

Travel:

  1. Water Transportation: Instead of driving all the way to Fort Kochi, take the ferry and back to avoid all the driving and any traffic you might run into. There are also jhankars on which you can take your car across and many other water transportation options that are economic and make for a great experience.

  2. If you are going to shopping malls, you don’t have to park in the mall parking exclusively; most malls will have Pay and Parks nearby.

  3. Public Bus, be it transport or private have their set routes. Menaka, Vytilla Hub and Kaloor are the bus stands where you can find the most number of options for buses.

  1. If you are looking to buy things like strawberry, parsley, fresh rosemary etc. Lulu Hypermarket has the whole lot. But if you are too tired to make the long drive there are other options.  Head to the local market at Broadway or Kadavantra where you can pick up these things at cheaper prices, but you might have to pick them up in larger quantities.

  2. Talking about Lulu, if you really do need to pick something up from Lulu Hypermarket, beat the rush by going in early morning. The Hypermarket is open from 9 in the morning and traffic will be less enroute.

  3. If you are a girl looking to pick up some casual wear at a cheap price, head down to Spinner’s Export Surplus Store at Elamakkara. There are other stores like Papilion in Convent Junction where you get everything from export surplus tops to ready made blouses.

  4. If you are someone who likes to pick out fabrics and get clothes stitched for yourself head to Parthas to buy cotton fabric, Level 10 to buy casual running material and some of the big name fabric shops like Milan or Goodwill to buy heavier worked materials.

  5. If you are looking to get custom made shoes or any casual shoes at decent price, head on over to this half a century old shoe shop in Kochi.
  6. If you want to know about all the offers in various brands and shops that are going on in the city, head on over to our offers section.

If you are willing to shell out a little more, there are places like JTPAC, River Bourne Center, The Muse Room that have music gigs on a weekly basis.

General Hacks:

  1. Kochi is known for its abundance of mosquitoes and if you are in a tight spot and don’t have a mosquito bat, mosquito net and odomos at hand (which is the necessary anti mosquito arsenal), Use any mentholated balm like Amrutajan or Tiger Balm to keep mosquitoes away.
  2. Being nice is always a good idea- Adding a chetta/chechi while talking to auto people, bus conductors, watchmen can always help you out.
  3. If you are looking to go out to eat, or to the Salon, make sure to look up the deals on couponing websites some of which are active in Kochi.
