Kochi Metro Rail Limited is planning to install plastic bottle recycling machines in selected metro stations as part of an initiative to go environment-friendly. These machines are designed to dispose of plastic products effectively and are a cost-effective means for recycling bottles.

According to the press release, the installation of the machines is completely handled by South Indian Bank as part of their CSR. Kochi Metro will install these machines in the unpaid areas of the station so that everyone can use it. The machine vendors will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the machines.

It is a first for Kerala, that such machines are being set up. The main highlight of the program is that the customer using this facility will be incentivised by the issue of discount coupons that can be used in select commercial outlets, according to the press release.The first machine was inaugurated at the Palarivattom Station at 10pm today.
