All we want is a fair deal on our tickets.

A Keralite has managed to get free tickets for an entire lifetime. Jealous? So are we! On a Jet Airways flight from Dammam to Kochi, the total number of passengers onboard increased in number as a Malayali lady went into premature labor in-flight.  In the presence of a nurse, Mini Wilson, and the crew, the mother and the baby had a healthy delivery and the flight was re-routed to Mumbai, having declared a medical emergency. From the Mumbai airport, the mother and the baby were taken to a hospital, where the both are doing fine. The flight, with a 90-minute delay, and having created history, landed in Kochi.

According to Jet Airways Officials, this is the first time that such an event has occurred on their airlines, so the newborn baby is lucky to get a lifetime worth free passes in any Jet Airways flight. Most airlines allow expecting mothers to fly until they are 36 weeks pregnant, which is usually around four weeks before their due date. After 28 weeks of pregnancy, mothers usually have to produce a signed doctor's letter to the airline, to certify that they are fit to fly.

One among the earliest recorded history of a baby being born mid-air goes way back to 6 September 1995, when Dararasami Thongcharoen surprised everyone by being born two months ahead of her delivery date on Thai Airway’s flight. Dararasami is named after the Boeing 747 her mother was flying on when she gave birth, which means 'Starlight' in English. She is now considered a “daughter of Thai Airways.” Airline president Thamnoon Wanglee announced that in addition to the special flying privileges, the girl would also receive an educational scholarship from the airline.
