There are certain streets that you need to visit when in a new town, these help you figure out what the city is like. It is possible for you to absorb the city’s essence by trying out the food and observing the people who pass by. Here are 8 streets that you need to visit in Kochi.

1. Princess Street, Fort Kochi

The Princess Street is one of the oldest streets in Fort Kochi. Dotted with European-style houses, the street has an old-world feel. You will come across amazing handicrafts, clothes, jewellery and several other things. When in Princess Street, remember to head to the Fort Kochi beach. The beach is at the end of the road.

2. Mahatma Gandhi Road 

Home to the Seematti and Centre Square, this is where you head to get your shopping done. MG Road has everything you will ever need. Accessibility? MG road is less than a minute away from the South Railway Station and from the Kerala Transport Bus Stand. The other major railway station, North Railway Station, is less than 10 minutes away.

3. Goshree Chathiath Road

The Chathiath road is the best way to relax in the evening after a long day’s work. Sit along the edges of the backwaters, munch on some peanuts and watch the sun set.

4. Panampilly Nagar Avenue

Panampilly Nagar is perhaps the poshest residential zone in the state. Panampilly Nagar has the chicest boutiques and the hippest cafes.

5. Shanmugham Road

The Shanmugham Road runs parallel to the backwaters of Kochi. This road houses many shopping centres and offices. The city’s first mall, Bay Pride mall, is on this road. The Rainbow Bridge and The Queen’s pathway are two notable attractions close to the road. The jetty, from where you may catch a boat to Fort Kochi, is five minutes away.

6. Infopark Road

The Infopark road in Kakkanad is your path to the gates of present day Kochi. The Infopark is the IT park developed by the Government of Kerala. The Inforpark has attracted investments from IT majors like Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Affiliated Computer Services, OPI Global, IBS Software Services and US Technology.

7. Jew Street

It is a walk down the lanes of antiquity. The Jew Street is lined with shops that sell curios, antique pieces of crockery, carved wooden furniture, bronze and brass sculptures, remnants of traditional houses, and jewellery. The antique sellers of these streets are the descendants of Jews who settled down here in AD 52.

8. Market Road

The Market Road is the busiest street in the city. Workers reach their shops early in the morning, around 5AM. From then till the evening, the place is filled. Trucks unloading goods, customers trying to strike a bargain with shopkeepers, the hustle and bustle of the market goes well into the evening.
