The third edition of Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB) will feature internationally-reputed writers, musicians and theatre-persons along with a host of visual artistes from across India and the world. Among them will figure iconic Chilean poet Raul Zurita, who was announced as the first artist at KMB’16 on December 15, 2015.

“It is going to be an admixture of styles, schools and sensibilities,” said curator Sudarshan Shetty, long recognised as one of his generation’s most innovative artists. Here we introduces the first 25 artists for 12/12/16.

1. Raúl Zurita (poetry/installation, Chile)

2. Ouyang Jianghe (poetry/installation, China)

3. Sophie Dejode and Bertrand Lacombe (sculpture/installation, France)

France based artists, they focuses on sculpture and installations.

 

4. Caroline Duchatelet (video, France)

Source

Caroline Duchatelet is from France. Her work explores questions of landscapes and light. 

 

5. Achraf Touloub (drawing/video, Morocco/France)

Achraf Touloub is from Casablanca, Morocco.

 

6. Sharmistha Mohanty (poetry/installation, India)

Sharmistha Mohanty is the author of three works of fiction, Book OneNew Lifeand Five Movements in Praise. 

 

7. Avinash Veeraraghavan (embroidery/video, India)

Avinash Veeraraghavan is a contemporary Indian artist.His interest in visuals extends to images of all kinds, from photographs, patterns in print and textiles, wallpaper patterns, wrapping paper to motifs taken from different cultures.

 

8. Orijit Sen (graphic arts, India)

9. Anamika Haksar (theatre, India)

She is renowned theatre artist from India.

 

10.  Praneet Soi (drawing/sculpture/installation, India/Holland)

He was born in Kolkata and he has been granted a research fellowship at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C.

 

11. T.V. Santhosh (painting, India)

T.V. Santhosh (born 1968 in Kerala) is an artist based in Mumbai.

 

12. Desmond Lazaro (painting, India/UK)

13. Daniele Galliano (painting/performance, Italy)

14. Yuko Mohri (installation, Japan)

15. Katrina Neiburga and Andris Eglitis (installation, Latvia)

They are recognised video artists from Latvia.

 

 

16. Valerie Mejer (poetry/painting, Mexico)

Valerie Mejer is a painter and poet and she was born in Mexico City. Her poems explore containment and fragility and possibility over a once-familiar landscape.

 

17. Camille Norment (sound installation, USA/Norway)

She is an innovative contemporaryartist working with sound.

 

18. Pedro Gomez-Egana (installation, Colombia/Norway)

Source 

He was born in Columbia and working at Norway. He make sculptures that move and stage them in specific ways. 

 

19. Hanna Tuulikki (sound/word/video, UK)

Hanna Tuulikki is a Finnish-English vocalist, musician and artist, born in Sussex.  By Chance Upon Waking and The Siren's Wave are her albums.

 

20. Charles Avery (drawing/public space installation, UK)

21. Gary Hill (video, USA)

Gary Hill (born 1951) is an American artist who lives and works in Seattle, Washington. He is often viewed as one of the foundational artists in video art.

 

22. Dana Awartani (drawing/painting, Saudi Arabia)

Dana Awartani is an experienced artist based in Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. She is dedicated to the revival of historical crafts from the Islamic world.

 

23. Erik Van Lieshout (performance, Netherlands)

Erik van Lieshout is a Dutch artist whose projects are multi media installations encompassing video presented in specially built video rooms/installations, often encircled by collages of drawings and paintings.

 

24. Naiza Khan (video installation, Pakistan/UK)

Born in Bahawalpur, Pakistan, in 1968, Naiza Khan currently lives in London. She is Professional Advisor at the Department of Visual Studies, University of Karachi.

 

25.  Pawel Althamer (performance/sculpture, Poland)

Pawel Althamer is a Polish artist. In his art he combines the visual experience with suggestive socially-minded messages.
