The Durbar Hall ground was jam packed last Sunday as Kochi took its stand against drugs through a glorious performance by the students of Hill Song College- all the way from the land down under.  The program was organized by the St.Thomas Marthoma church, Kalamassery and it also featured a band from the Christian music ministry group- Glorious Ministry Bangalore. Wtzupcity.com caught up with the friendly Aussies after the show, because we love to give a warm Kochi welcome to anyone new to our city.

We sat down to an exclusive interview with the band who happily shared their experiences with us. Hilsong College is based in Sydney, Australia and they are commited to raise, equip, empower and release leaders to help spread the word of the Christian Gospel. When asked about whether they were planning any concerts for the future, they explained that they performed their music for a purpose and they don’t see it much of as a musical performance but more on the lines of setting a stage to spread their message.

Ted, the drummer was awestruck with Kerala. We received the usual feedback about India and Kochi- about how it is an amazing experience and that the hospitality of the people is heartwarming . We have heard it all before but we are always proud to hear it again. The band was still pumped up after the huge turnout they had the previous night and was getting ready to explore Kochi after the interview. While some band memebers wanted to check out Lulu Mall, many wanted to explore the streets of Fort Kochi.

They were here in Kochi to associate themselves to the cause of the anti-drug campaign and they are ready to perform wherever they feel there is a need to share their message. Jithu Jose, chairman of Ernakulam Round Table 214 that partnered with the Awareness Against Drug Abuse expressed his appreciation for the team to come all the way to Kochi and sees this event as a great platform to spread awareness against drug abuse.

Aaron, the creative director for the band explained the concept of the Hillsong College concert and the institution that they are part of. The Hillsong church is not just one band, but primarily an educational institution that houses many creative people. The college chooses a student body which would best represent the college for a particular season and these students are then given an opportunity to get together, form a band and perform around the world for their mission. The band is involved in Christian services every weekend in their college and this concert was an extension of those services. The Kochi performance was part of their efforts and they were truly overwhelmed with the city and the response they got from the performance.

Thank you Hill Song Church, we hope you enjoyed our great city!
