Pursuing a passion is the most satisfying thing in the world, or that is what us dreamers try to convince ourselves, no matter how hard it gets. Around this women’s day, Wtzupkochi caught up with Madhulika Ra Chauhan, a digital marketer and mom by day and passionate writer by night.Born in Morbad, Uttar Pradesh and now settled in China with her family, Madhulika makes it a point to pursue her passion for writing and is someone that aspiring writers can use as a role model. Her recent book – Corporate Love Tadka was published on juggernaut and can be purchased there.

How would you define yourself?

I’m a dreamer who is trying to balance my family keeping pace with my work (Digital Marketer) and my passion (Writing).

What inspired you to take up the pen?

I’ve been intrigued by books since an early age and becoming an author was always kind of on my wish list but it was not until my son was born that my creative juices kind of plummeted and I started making a concerted effort towards it. Who is your biggest inspiration? I constantly get inspired by something or the other. However, my biggest inspiration lies in nature especially flowers and trees who by simply being there inspire us, braving season after season and telling us to be persistent despite the results.

What is a typical day in your life like?

A typical day in my life would start by waking up and getting my son off to school followed by a crazy sprint to go to office. Evenings are mostly spent playing catchup with my son on what has happened and after he sleeps I spend my night on writing or reading.

How did you come up with the premise of Corporate Love Tadka?

I just wanted to write a love story of a girl who is still trying to find her identity in the corporate world and that’s when the character Preeti, a vibrant Punjabi girl who loves food and is basically simple at heart was born. The story just takes you through her struggle of finding love while getting caught in the rough corporate world.

What is the best compliment you have received on your writing?

I guess it’s too early to be ranking anything. I’ll perhaps do it after I’ve done more writing. This is just my second book.

What would your dream project be like?

Well. I love reading and writing about strong women, so my dream project would definitely be about a strong woman protagonist that’s for sure. Other than that I’ really cannot say much about it.

Would you switch to being a full time writer? Why or why not?

I guess that’s not a choice the writer makes. If I would be able to make moolah doing what I love doing who know I might just spend my days writing. Until that time, I’m just keeping my day job.

What is the biggest challenge for you while pursuing writing?

Initially when I started writing, the biggest challenge was finding time to write, as my son was not even a year old and I had already joined work, but after a while when I figured out a routine it was easier to just stick to it.

What advice would you give to other women trying to pursue their passion?

The only advice I have for women who are trying to purse their passion – be that art form or non-art form — be confident in who you are and don’t wait for someone to come and tell you what you should start doing or inspire you. Just follow your gut instinct and stick to it.

Madhulika has written an array of articles for publications such as DailyO, FWD Media, Ezine and has published one book of short stories and a corporate romance novel.
