Barely a year and a half old, When Chai Met Toast has gained a spot in many people’s hearts with their happy music and for this writer, they have become as indispensible as coffee on drab mornings. The band has travelled far and long and made their name known on stages like NH7 Weekender Pune, The Gig Week Mumbai, The Humming Tree Bangalore and more.  In a prior interview with the band, they talked about how they came together and what keeps them going.

Although they have performed at numerous venues, performed on Kappa TV Music Mojo, they were yet to release a recorded of their songs and the band called in all their friends and fans to listen to their first EP – Joy Of Little Things- before it’s online release.  Their trailer itself had managed to pique many people’s interest.

The EP Listening party took place at Café Papaya on 25th January 2017. The event was as fun and upbeat as the band’s music. The event started off with Vishnu Varma Collective performing their original songs and also the cover of Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud, followed by Pure Insight, an ambient music band, who performed their originals.

Ashwin Gopakumar and Achyuth Jaigopal then took to the stage to talk about their journey and the road till the EP release. They talked of going home and tea in bed and about embracing the smaller things in life and finally played the song “Joy of little things”, followed by crowd favorite Firefly.

The band hadn’t planned on going live at the event, but of course  ended up performing their first hit “Beautiful World”, followed by a new composition called “Fighter”. For When Chai Met Toast (or WCMT), it couldn’t have gotten any better. The best part of course was everyone singing along to each of their lines, as Ashwin later said was always their favorite part of any show that they do.  Aaquib Saneen, the CEO of Degraphic factory, who is a big fan of the band created T-Shirts, which was purchased by ardent WCMT fans at the party.

For a shot of joy and a spring in your step, listen to the band’s debut EP at this link on bandcamp. You can also stay tuned to know about their latest perfomences and such on their facebook page.
