Kochi Metro Offers Free Ride For all, Today

On the occasion of Kochi Metro’s first anniversary, they have decided to give all commuters a free travel On June 19 2018 and announced issuance fee and annual fee on purchase of Kochi 1 card from 15 to June 30th

On Tuesday, all passengers commuting in Kochi Metro can enjoy free rides as part of its one-year anniversary celebrations. Even though the Metro was inaugurated on June 17, 2017, commercial operations started only after two days (June 19). “Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) is organizing free rides to give an opportunity to those who have never taken a Metro ride,” said KMRL managing director A P M Mohammed Hanish.

He also announced a waiver of ₹150 on the issuance fee and the ₹75 annual fee for commuters who purchase Kochi-1 pre-paid smart card from June 15 to June 30. The week-long celebrations to commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioning the metro on June 17, 2017, started with cutting of a huge cake at the Edappally metro station on Sunday.
Over 500 Saplings were also planted by all employees the Muttom depot area as a part of the one-year anniversary celebrations.

The average number of passengers using the metro has also doubled from 20,000 to 40,000 per day, Hanish said, adding that the number of people traveling during holidays has touched nearly 60,000, according to the report. The total length of the Kochi Metro line is 25 km.
