Wkochi has a chat with the coordinators of Stories Worth Sharing Season 2 and here is what the event is about
Storytelling is one of the oldest forms of entertainment we have had as a species. From the stories we tell everyday, to stories passed on across generations, we are by nature storytellers. But in our fast-paced world of texting and social media, the art of storytelling might be getting lost. However, the human spirit always finds an alternative when our options are taken away. Stories worth Sharing (SWS) is such an alternative.
SWS is an initiative movement started by Himanshu Poswal and Mohit Munjal. The 21-year-old Engineering students based out of Delhi are childhood friends from Haryana. They came up with the idea while sitting in the ghats of Varanasi, says Himanshu. They noticed a bunch of Europeans who were just sitting and conversing without looking at their phones. This is what inspired them to start SWS. The first show took place in Delhi on March 19, 2017. The second session was held in Bangalore. It later gradually spread to over 60 cities. They just celebrated their first anniversary a few days ago by conducting another event in Delhi.
SWS invites ordinary people to speak about stories from their lives. The structure is with 15 speakers in a three-hour show, five minutes plus one minute of time for each speaker. The topics can be anything except for politics and religion for obvious reasons. Each participant also gets a personalised postcard which adds to the overall experience.
SWS is bringing its storytelling meetup on May 13, 2018, at the beautiful city of Kochi! You can either be a speaker to share your stories or a listener to be a part of someone else's life! With no entry fee, the purpose is a sheer value addition.
You can speak on anything of your choice in six minutes. 15 speaker slots are available based on the order of registration.
